Construction Progress

Through the unexpected gift of the late Mr. Richard Condorelli, Dr. Ashok Patel began the Richard Condorelli Memorial Foundation as a way to give back to communities in great need. The first community to benefit from this foundation is the impoverished Dang district of Gujarat, India. With the valued support of honorable Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi, plans were formed to construct a multi-specialty hospital to address and serve the medical needs of the tribal Dang community and surrounding areas.

The land needed for the construction of the hospital was purchased from the government of Gujarat, and the groundbreaking ceremony was performed by the former Honorable Health Minister of Gujarat, Shree Jai Narayan Vyas, on April 4, 2011.

Construction of the hospital officially began in June of 2011. The foundation and initial outline, a residential facility for foreign medical teams, and a hostel for trainees were completed by December of 2015.

Taking into consideration the lengthy time frame for the full construction of the facility, a fully functional clinic was established in December of 2015. The clinic has since allowed us to serve the medical needs of the community while the construction of the hospital is still ongoing.

By 2016, steady progress was seen in construction, along with an added fourth residential facility for full-time doctors and staff. In view of the desired long term outcome and to better serve the basic needs of the community, additional facilities have been incorporated into the project such as operating rooms and a functional maternity ward.

In February 2018, we were blessed with a large financial commitment from Dr. Kiran C. Patel which allowed us to expedite all phases of construction. In honor of Dr. Kiran’s generous contribution, it was decided to name the facility the “Dr. Kiran C. Patel Multi-Specialty Hospital”.

The hospital is now nearly completed and our goal is to have Dr. Kiran C. Patel Multi-Specialty Hospital fully functionals and operational by the end of 2020.

Future Goals

Richard Condorelli Memorial Foundation plans to enact similar programs and institutions to that of the ongoing project in Dang, India. Using Dr. Kiran C. Patel Multi-Specialty Hospital as the standard the Richard Condorelli plans to accomplish the following around the globe:

  • to establish health care facilities in inaccessible, economically backward and rural communities
  • to help to create affordable/low-cost housing for communities affected or displaced by natural disasters
  • to help to start primary and secondary schools in rural areas of India and to East African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria
  • to help to create facilities to provide emergency medical care to children they could not get otherwise
  • to provide necessary assistance for the general well-being of the disadvantaged people, both in the USA and other developing countries

By accomplishing these goals, we hope to truly become a bridge that will provide excellent healthcare and educational services such as we have here in Boston to impoverished communities around the world.
